My Most Embarrassing Moment

I attended Girl Scout day camp when I was eight. We we warned to stay away from the creek, but a friend and I loved to cross on the stones when no one was looking. As luck would have it, one day I slipped and fell into the stream. The camp leaders worried that I might get chilled and catch a cold. (It was July, for Heaven's sake, I thought). Anyway, they asked if I had anything dry to change into. We all brought totes with our raincoats, etc. so I told them I had a raincoat. Since I only lived 3 blocks from the camp, they decided I should change into my raincoat, put my wet clothes into my tote and walk home. I complied, paying no attention to the fact that my vinyl raincoat was transparent. My mother, who ran a beauty shop in the parlor of our home and often glanced out at the street as she worked, saw me coming. She yanked me into the door and pointed out the fact that I was NUDE under the raincoat and everyone could see through it. Hmmmm. I had noticed cars honking and people waving but thought they were just being friendly. Later, I was soooo embarrassed.

Oh, that's a good one, Marlis! Don't know anything that can top that! :)

OUTSTANDING! Although you'd think one of the counselors at the camp would have noticed that.

In retrospect, I think my early dismissal was as much about punishment as good health.

You can live through something like this at eight ... but if the same thing happened at eighteen ...
